Hereford FC returned to winning ways this afternoon with a 3-0 win over Kings Langley. Afterwards manager Peter Beadle spoke to the local media.
"Competent yes but confident no," said Beadle.
"I thought at times we looked to be, certainly first half, a little bit lacking in confidence.
"I thought the two wide boys could have been a bit more purposeful in their possession.
"We spoke to them at halftime about it then Pabs does a great bit of work in the corner to get a cross it and we get a second goal just because he's more purposeful and he does what he's good at like getting at players. He didn't seem to do it first half.
"I thought we worked hard enough first half to deserve the lead but again it could have been so much different because I thought it was a penalty for them first half.
"If it had been the other way around I would have been shouting for it.
"But we saw it through and then second half it was a bit more comfortable and again with it being a litle bit dis-jointed we the chances we had to make.
"Really pleased with the players, their effort was great. The character was much better to bounce back after Tuesday night.
"So, all in all, a nice solid performance, much more comfortable second half and could have been run out even more comfortable winners towards the end.
"Set pieces second half were good, we've got some decent sized lads who can attack the ball. It was nice to see Mike score a header. He attacked it really well.
"After that we had a little flurry of corners where we had some good movement and players willing to attack the ball and that excites people and gets people going because you have near-misses and things like that.
"We're not quite there yet with our quality in general play, set pieces are great as long as we keep getting them but we just need to be a little bit better.
"But I'm really pleased with what they've done today and pleased with how they've bounced back after Tuesday."
Beadle had to switch things around because of an injury in training at Cheltenham to winger Adam Page and the loss of James Bowen who, as yet, hasn't been replaced. He also reverted to a 4/4/2 set up with Jimmy Oates switching to left back.
"Yes we did, the three did okay first half on Tuesday but we just felt we needed to be a bit more solid. When we played them they had a three so we anticpated they would have a three so we tried to keep our two wide players with the two wide full backs to give us an overload of 2 v 1.
"And obviously Dan Preston is not a left back, he's a centre half. He would fill in there and play but he's not going to be up and down the line like the other two were today. So that's why we changed it and we looked quite strong throughout the game.
"We've made two offers for one particular person we are trying to bring in. At the moment the both offers have been rejected by the club, we have options about bringing someone in on loan but we just want to see this one through first.
"Jimmy is more than comfortable over on that side so providing the others are okay we'll probably go with that on Tuesday unless we can get this one moving again over the next couple of days.
"We don't know about the player as we can't speak to him until they agree an offer and they want more money but we think what we've offered them is fair for a left back. It's a decent amount of money so I'm really pleased the board have backed us in doing this.
"There aren't many left backs around, certainly in the area, that we would take, would be good enough for us. This boy we think is more than good enough. It's someone we ear-marked in the summer.
"We'll give it another day or two maybe put a little bit more into it. Perhaps talk to them about something different, do it a different way but if not done by Tuesday we may have to move on to someone more short-term and look for a long term one a bit later."
Finally who will be fit for Tuesday at Tiverton?
"Like I said you couldn't write it at the moment. He (Adam Page) goes in for training with Cheltenham yesterday doing an eleven v eleven, practising for their game, does a free kick, goes in as the charger, the ball hits him smack in the face and knocks him out.
"When I got the phonecall yesterday you couldn't write it for this stuff to happen. So he's out for two games, he wouldn't have been able to play today or on Tuesday. He's seeing the club doctor today.
"Garyn hopefully will be available, Keyon maybe, we'll just wait and see how he is, Dinsley no, Symonds now suspended. So it's all hands to the pump.
"You can't write it, it's gone from one extreme to the other. Four lads not involved in the team at all and now I haven't got enough to fill the bench.
"Hopefully they are not major issues just little niggles but with the games coming so close together it's hard to get them right in time for the next game, if had had a free week Tuesday maybe Keyon might have been available.
"But it wasn't to be and that's it.
"I thought the two lads who played wide did well, I thought Purds and Macca were steady in the middle of the park and Jiimy and Dara and the two full backs did fine"
