Last Night In The Southern Prem

A round up of the action in the Southern Premier League written by Steve Whitney.

The top two march on in the Evo-Stik League South Premier after Kettering Town and King`s Lynn Town earned home Tuesday night wins.
The Poppies hold a two-point lead over Lynn after they beat early-season leaders Banbury United 3-0 at Latimer Park in front of a crowd of 653.
Kettering had the better of the early stages but it was as the quarter-of-an-hour mark approached that they really began to put heavy pressure on Banbury and took the lead when the ball came in from the left and in a scramble Brett Solkhon knocked the ball home from close range.
It wasn`t until the 67th minute though that the Poppies were able to double their advantage when a free-kick on the edge of the area was superbly struck by Ben Milnes into the top corner of the net giving Jack Harding in the Banbury goal no chance.
Kettering wrapped up the scoring a minute into stoppage time when Rene Howe converted a spot-kick after Rhys Hoenes had been fouled.
King`s Lynn had 589 at The Walks for their game against Biggleswade Town and matched Kettering with a 3-0 success.
However, it took an hour for the Linnets to breakthrough against the Waders when Craig Parker scored.
Six minutes later, Ryan Hawkins doubled the home side`s lead and then a minute into stoppage time, Ryan Jarvis added a third.
Slough Town are third after they impressively won 4-1 at Redditch United, who they overtook as a consequence.
Arguably the Rebels best performance of the season saw them come back from being a 17th minute Dior Angue goal down to lead 2-1 at the break, courtesy of goals from Chris Flood after 24 minutes and Manny Williams just before the whistle.
Flood added his second 9 minutes after the break and then Warren Harris wrapped up victory with Slough`s fourth in the 69th minute.
Slough also went above Tiverton Town in the table after the Yellows were beaten 2-1 at Penydarren Park by Merthyr Town, who are now eighth.
Eliot Richards gave the Martyrs a 26th minute lead that Ian Traylor doubled right on half-time.
Levi Landricombe reduced the arrears 20 minutes from time, but the hosts held firm for the points.
Dunstable Town are now at the foot of the table after they suffered a 5-0 Creasey Park hammering by Bishop`s Stortford, while Gosport Borough moved above them after picking up their first point of the campaign at Kings Langley.
The Blue Brazil doubled their win tally for the season in style, taking an early 2nd minute lead through Afolabi Akinyemi and then racing into a 4-0 lead by half-time with further goals from Jason Williams in the 11th and 16th minutes and one from Mark Hughes on 42 minutes.
Williams went on to complete his hat-trick wih the only goal of a quieter second half in the 69th minute.
Gareth Price gave Kings Langley the lead 2 minutes into the second half at Gaywood Park.
But beleaguered Gosport grabbed their first point with a goal from Matt Buse 12 minutes from the end.
Weymouth earned a last-gasp win over Basingstoke Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
A crowd of 487 saw Ben Wright give the visitors an early 4th minute lead that Ben Thomson eventually cancelled out just past the hour-mark.
But just 2 minutes later, Sam Smart restored `Stoke`s lead, only for Calvin Brooks to equalise 9 minutes later.
Brandon Goodship grabbed all three points for the Terras in the first minute of time added on at the end of the game from the penalty spot after Dan Bayliss was adjudged to have fouled Thomson.
Chesham United recovered from last weekend`s late defeat at Kettering to win 3-1 at Stratford Town.
It was goalless until 7 minutes into the second period when Giuseppe Iaciofano put the Generals in front.
Lewis Toomey added a second for the visitors on the hour-mark and he made it 3-0 just 5 minutes later, rendering Jazz Luckie`s stoppage time reply as just a consolation for Carl Adams` side.
St Neots Town enjoyed a home win by the same scoreline against Royston Town.
But they had to come back from being an early 5th minute Josh Oyinsan goal down to win, thanks to Ryan Horne after 14 minutes, loanee Tom Meechan on 64 minutes and then a Scott Thomas own goal 14 minutes from time.
