The move comes after Gloucester keeper Jasbir Singh decided to leave.
"Tim Harris did it the right way," said Hereford manager Peter Beadle as reported by the OS.
"He rang me today and asked to speak to Alex. Alex spoke to them and was keen to test himself at the highest possible level.
"I'm disappointed to lose him but wish him all the best."
Meanwhile Tim Harris has commented on the signing.
"Alex is highly thought of and he's a winner who has enjoyed two highly successful seasons
"He is a big lad, who is dominant and kicks it well.
"He has good pedigree and I am delighted to sort out a new goalkeeper so quickly.
"Good goalkeepers are hard to come by and we have been looking at potentially bringing in an academy lad on a season long loan.
"But to snap Alex up this early on his extremely pleasing because he's developed into a fine keeper and is a great age."
