AFC Telford Reject Takeover by Property Developer

AFC Telford have rejected a takeover by an Irish Property Developer after he failed to show proof of funds, a club statement has said.

The Shropshire-based club were hesitant after they conducted due diligence.

Anthony McMullen wanted to buy 51% of the shares, but said he could only pay for 3% upfront. It wasn't clear if or when the remainder of the money would be paid.

The club statement read: "Our due diligence prior to the calls and meetings, revealed that the individual had made an unsuccessful bid a number of years ago to take a majority share in a club in Scotland, but that the board of that club pulled out, as a result of conditions the individual was making.

"We also established that more recently the individual had been a director and CEO of two companies that had gone into liquidation and in at least one of those cases it was alleged that creditors were owed money.

"The individual declined to sign a non disclosure agreement, declined to demonstrate proof of funds because he would need to go to the market for a loan, did not make any written or confirmed verbal offer to purchase shares, did not ask for any financial information or request to do any due diligence."

Chesh's Winning Photo is 'Football in a Nutshell'

Bulls News contributor Will Cheshire has been awarded for his photography skills at a ceremony in Cardiff this evening.

Will contributes to both Bulls News and Hereford Goals, and also takes photos for Abergavenny Town and other Welsh sides. He picked up the prize for best photo in the over 16's on the pitch category.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final which takes place in Cardiff on Saturday, the Football Association of Wales wanted to highlight grassroots football, so launched the 'This is Welsh Football' photo competition.

Chesh's winning entry

Writing on Facebook after picking up his award, Will said: "Thank you everyone for messages and comments. Overwhelmed after an unbelievable evening in Cardiff.

"The event itself was a small with less than 100 private opening evening with delegates from FAW, UEFA and others.

"Never in a million years did I think I would make the top three let alone win."

Former Welsh International Ian Rush described the photo as 'football in a nutshell, and Chesh went onto thank Abergavenny Town.

"Listening to a legend like Ian Rush talking about my picture and how it's football in a nutshell was just wow.

"I've only been a photographer for just over 18 months and to be honest only really done it seriously over the last 12 months thanks to the opportunity that Abergavenny offered me."

Will picking up his award, which included a ticket to Saturday's final

Anyone in the Cardiff area tomorrow can take a look at the gallery in the Millennium Centre from 10am. The Champions League Trophy will be outside.

Congratulations Chesh from all of us at Bulls News!

Dorchester Snap Up Experienced Keeper

Dorchester Town have agreed terms with experienced goalkeeper Chris Weale, who drops back to non-league.

The 35-year old started his senior career at Yeovil in 2000 prior to their promotion to the Football League, making 163 appearances in his six year stay at the club.

After time at Bristol City, he went on to rack-up 75 appearances for Leicester in the Championship, before a move to Shrewsbury in 2012.

He has most recently been with Derby, but left the club in January by mutual consent.

The Bulls will meet the Magpies this coming season in the Southern Premier. Weale played two games between the sticks for Hereford during two separate loan spells in 2007 and 2008.

While on loan at League One Yeovil in 2009, Weale scored a dramatic late equaliser against already-relegated Hereford as the sides drew 2-2.

Dorchester finished 18th in the Southern Premier last season.

Gloucester Manager Speaks About Deaman's Move To Hereford

Gloucester manager Tim Harris has spoken about defender Jack Deaman moving to Hereford FC.

"I had a call while on holiday from Hereford manager Peter Beadle informing me he had agreed terms with Jack," Harris told the Gloucester OS.

"Jack was offered a new deal with ourselves however his desire to move on is understandable. He has a young family and is a talented young man.

"I would like to wish him all the best for the future and hope he gets to where he wants to be again as a full time footballer."

Defender Deaman Joins Hereford

Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle has signed 24 year old Jack Deaman who is a 6ft 3in defender.

A ball-playing centre back who signed for the Tigers in 2016. Deaman has experience at higher levels, with Wrexham, Birmingham City and Cheltenham Town among the list of his former clubs. Manager Tim Harris has gone on record stating that Deaman “is above National League North level” and has experience at this tier, having played for AFC Telford United in 2015.

He had a spell on-loan at Salford City last season but returned to Gloucester after deciding against a permanent move.

Commenting on the signing Peter Beadle told the OS:

“Jack is a fantastic and significant signing for us. He’s played in the Football League and is keen to get back there, demonstrating the hunger and characteristics we’ve been looking for to take the club forward. He’s a great age and has good experience at higher levels.”

From The Archives - Huddersfield Humble Hearty Hereford

Earlier this afternoon Huddersfield were promoted to the Premiership. Back in the 2008/09 season they were in Division One as were Hereford United.

Here's a look back to December 20th 2008:

Huddersfield humble hearty Hereford

Huddersfield Town got their Lee Clark era under way with a 2-0 home victory over Hereford United this afternoon at the impressive Galpharm Stadium. The Bulls created a host of chances at the start of either half but failed to convert any of them. United were ultimately punished by their hosts when Nathan Clarke scored from close-range and the advantage was doubled when Gary Roberts finished a flowing move.
The Bulls were unchanged following on from their two match unbeaten run although Robbie Threlfall returned to the bench in place of Clint Easton, after a lengthy period out injured. Huddersfield included three ex Accrington men in their starting line-up with Roberts joining Robbie Williams and Ian Craney. Keigan Parker returned after a three match ban with former Everton striker Danny Cadamarteri having to be content with a place on the bench.
The away side made a lively start to the game with Josh Gowling nearly scoring his first goal for the club; Lionel Ainsworth sent in a corner which was nodded on and at the back-post Gowling headed towards goal and was only denied by a goal-line clearance. Richard Rose had a powerful effort blocked before Andy Williams sliced over the rebound whilst a Guinan header, this time from a Done corner, was held by the impressive Huddersfield ‘keeper Alex Smithies. The home side came into the game and soon started creating chances of their own with Jim Goodwin hitting the side-netting with a placed effort after good hold-up work from Parker. Goodwin then turned provided as he sent in a deep cross which was met the back-post by R. Williams but his header was denied by a fine save from Craig Samson as he pushed the ball over the bar.
The Scottish ‘keeper was again the hero moments later as Roberts sent an in swinging corner with Clarke meeting it in the area but once more, Samson made an excellent close-range save. The former Ipswich man was starting to get into the game and he sent a shot into the body of Samson, before setting up Craney who shot wildly into the away fans. The combative central midfield man went a little closer with his next effort however, as a pass from Parker made its way to Craney and he fired just over from 20 yards. United looked threatening on the break and a snapshot effort from Guinan from all of 30 yards had Smithies scrambling to hold the shot.
The home side continued to press with Roberts running at the Bulls’ back-line, eventually turning past Beckwith before curling just past the far-post with his un-favoured right-foot.Two neat passing moves, a highlight of Huddersfield’s play, resulted in chances for both R. Williams and Roberts once again but Samson was on hand to make routine saves. Clarke ventured forward from the back to skip past Toumani Diagouraga but gave a ‘defender’s finish’ as he failed to trouble Samson whilst at the other end, Dean Beckwith headed at Smithies from an Ainsworth corner. The Terriers won a corner of its own and it wasn’t cleared, falling nicely to Roberts whose control set him up for a strike which he hit truly but it went just over. In the final moments, Hereford had arguably their best chance of the half with Ainsworth instrumental in a superb counter-attack; the Watford loanee used some tricks to get Hereford out of trouble at the back, before bringing both Guinan and A. Williams into play whilst continuing his run. The ball made its way to Ainsworth down the right-wing and in front of the back-line but he decided to take the shot a little early and sent it just past the near post.
The Bulls came out in the second-half in confident fashion and dominated the opening proceedings to silence the vocal home support. A. Williams used his body to spin past a defender before touching past another but he couldn’t beat the ‘keeper from 20 yards as Smithies denied his powerful strike. Ainsworth was the danger man, as has been the case in the last two matches, playing a one-two with Guinan before breaking into the box but he couldn’t keep his composure as he blasted over from a fine position. A beautiful left-footed cross from Kris Taylor was flicked onto the roof of the net by Guinan at the near-post before a looped cross from Ainsworth was tamely headed wide by A. Williams. In a carbon copy of the earlier chance, Taylor again whipped in a superb cross for Guinan with this time the experienced striker heading, under pressure, inches past the back-post. Phil Jevons replaced James Berrett as Clark added another attacking threat to his team and the former Bristol City man nearly made an instant impact as he headed just over after good-work on the wing from Roberts.
Guinan picked out a decent pass to release Matty Done down the wing and he crossed into the danger-area where Ainsworth popped up at the back but his half-volley was hit into the ground and was easy for Smithies. Guinan was also involved in setting-up Ben Smith after good hold-up work, the Bulls’ captain smashed goal wards with Smithies finger-tips diverting it over. United were denied a penalty after A. Williams appeared to be tripped inside the area but the referee turned down the strong appeals; he did however send John Trewick to the stands for his protests. Cadamarteri took to the field in place of Craney and was involved as Huddersfield broke the deadlock. Taylor had deflected a shot from Parker out for a corner and after this was cleared, the lack of players up-field for United contributed to it coming straight back into the box; Cadamarteri found room on the right-wing and crossed into a superb area where Guinan tried his best to head it clear but it went straight to Clarke who tucked in from close-range.
It appeared to be the story of Hereford’s season, too many chances not taken and teams then going onto punish them. The Whites had a golden chance to equalise but failed to take it; Taylor again gave an excellent option on the wing by crossing and it made its way to Ainsworth who saw a powerful right-foot effort parried before the re-bound was sliced just wide from a stretching Guinan. Clarke tried his best to double his goal tally for the day but a header was denied by Samson. Parker curled past the far-post after turning 25 yards out before the Terriers doubled their lead. Roberts and Jevons linked up superbly down the left-hand side and into the box before the ball made its way to the winger who made no mistake by powerfully toe-poking past the despairing dive of Samson.
Credit must be handed to Hereford who kept on going with Guinan having a 20 yard shot pushed behind by Smithies whilst Parker dragged a shot past the post at the other end. A. Williams was nearly rewarded when he closed down a sloppy back-pass to challenge the ‘keeper but the ball deflected off the striker and bounced just over the open goal. Simon Johnson and Nick Chadwick came on for A. Williams and Done late on and the pair linked-up to release Chadwick but the former Plymouth striker saw his shot deflect wide. Jon Worthington came on for Parker before in stoppage time, Taylor saw his curling free-kick from 25 yards well saved by Smithies.
Under the guidance of the new manager and the backing of the majority of the 13,070 crowd, Huddersfield came through a tricky test although the away following of 214 will be encouraged by Hereford’s performance. If United had managed to get the first-goal, the game could have taken a much different path but the killer instinct still appears to be lacking up front. For all A. Williams hard-work up top, he rarely looks like he will pop up with a goal. Next up United is the Boxing Day visit of Tranmere Rovers, before a trip to league leaders Leicester City two days later.
Hereford: Samson, Rose, Gowling, Beckwith, Taylor, Ainsworth, Diagouraga, Smith, Done, Guinan, Williams.
Subs: Broadhurst, Threlfall, Gwynne, Johnson, Chadwick.
Huddersfield: Smithies, Berrett, ,N. Clarke, Goodwin, Butler, Williams, Holdsworth, Craney,Collins, Parker, Roberts.
Subs: Glennon, Worthington, T. Clarke, Jevons, Cadamarteri.

Congratulations Gary Bowyer

Former Hereford United player Gary Bowyer was a Wembley winner this afternoon. His Blackpool side defeated Exeter 2-1 to earn promotion to League One. Gary made 14 league appearances for the Bulls in the 1989/1990 season. One of those games was away at Scunthorpe on the 25th April. Gary scored a last minute goal to earn a 3-3 draw.

This match was famous due to the fact Gary's and his father Ian (The Hereford manager at the time) played in that game. The first time a father and son had appeared in a football league match together since 1951, and this scenario has yet to be repeated. You can view the footage here.

Clucas Compared to Glenn Hoddle by Guardian Writer

Clucas's teammates congratulate him on his goal against Cambridge in February 2013. Pic: BN.

The Guardian have published an article about the best and worst Premier League players according to their writers.

Ex-Hereford player Sam Clucas, now with Hull City, made the list.

Louise Taylor said: "There are other, far more obvious, candidates but placed in the context of Clucas’s achievement in ascending five rungs of the league ladder in successive seasons it has to be the left-footed midfielder.

"Impressive since being shifted from a wide role to central midfield this term, the intelligence of Clucas’s passing bears the hallmarks of Glenn Hoddle, who persuaded him not to give up the game before honing his skills at his football academy in Spain."

Clucas made 58 appearances for the Bulls between 2011 and 2013, moving to Mansfield for £20k.

After a stint with Chesterfield, Clucas then signed for Hull, for a figure thought to be in the region of £1.3m.

The full article from the Guardian can be read here (link).

Third Robin Turns Down Bulls Move

Hereford have already signed Lance Smith and Garyn Preen from Evesham United, and it's been reported by Gloucester Live that a third player turned down a move to Edgar Street.

Skipper Linden Dovey, who scored against Hereford in January, said it was tough to turn down a move to a 'massive club'.

The Mirror likened the centre-back to Lionel Messi for his goal, as he broke forward and evaded challenges from five Hereford players.

Speaking about why he turned down the move, Dovey said: "I had a couple of offers during the season from higher clubs which I wasn't interested in because of what we were trying to achieve in promotion.

"I've had a few more offers at the end of this season, which I didn't expect, including Hereford so it's been a little bit of an eye opener that people are always watching and keeping tabs on how you did.

"I've been very happy here the last three or four seasons but Hereford are a massive club and when we went to Edgar Street the crowd and atmosphere was unbelievable so of course it made it a hard decision.

"I live in Dudley and work in Walsall so it's not exactly easy to get Evesham midweek and to midweek games away let alone further afield to Hereford."
