Winchester Sign Matthews

Wincester City have signed 34 year old Robbie Matthews who has played for both Salisbury and Eastleigh.

A 6ft 4in striker, Matthews has also played for Kidderminster, Newport County and Forest Green Rovers.

"His career has been a roller coaster, but wherever he has played he has been highly regarded and will bring a wealth of ability and experience to the Denplan," said a spokesperson for Winchester.

Pre-season he trained with Salisbury and their manager Steve Claridge was hopeful he would sign for a further season.

"He had some injury problems last season, but if we can manage things with him, he definitely gives us something different up front and is also good cover at the back.

"He's got a demanding full-time job and I know how difficult it can be for players with the standards and commitment I ask of them, but it would be good if he could be part of things."

It's assumed he can play for Winchester tomorrow against Hereford.
