Lack of character says Beadle

Peter Beadle said that his Hereford FC players showed a 'lack of character' today, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Romulus in the FA Cup. John Mills fired Hereford into the lead but a Mark Branch penalty in the second-period ensures the two teams meet again on Tuesday at Edgar Street to do battle for a place in the second qualifying round.

Beadle was disappointed with the performance.

"Tough to watch. Tough for us because we were poor, extremely poor. Hugely disappointed with the performance. Showed a complete lack of character at times today.

"Yet again, not killing the game off in the final third and we should have wrapped it up, way before they got into the game."

Romulus play on a 3G pitch and Beadle was questioned about whether this had any impact on Hereford's game.

"Pitch was fine. We train on it, so it wasn't an issue"

Alex Harris made his first appearance for Hereford.

"Did fine. Didn't concede aside from the penalty. Didn't rotate it deliberately. Alex played because Martin Horsell was away."

Top goalscorer Mills started on the bench but came on to score, replacing Jamie Cuss, who picked up a knee injury early in the game.

"John wasn't well before the game, had been up all night being sick. The injury to Jamie is hopefully not too serious. Twisted and jarred his knee. It can happen on any surface."

The replay takes place this Tuesday.

"Players need to turn up and want to win. Sometimes they've got to go and earn it. We need to be better Tuesday."
