Ahead of today’s second home match of the season, Pete Beadle made a number of changes to the team that beat Mangotsfield 3-2 midweek. Captain Joel Edwards, player-coach Chris Barker and Ross Staley were replaced in the starting XI by Jamie Edge, Ryan Green and John Mills.

There was a minute’s applause before kick off in memory of former Hereford United players Harry Gregory, Tony Byrne and Adam Stansfield, with last Wednesday marking 6-years since Stansfield’s passing.

The visitors were quick off the mark to test Hereford's keeper Martin Horsell, when George Sinnott’s cross come shot from the left wing forced Martin Horsell to make a save low-down to his right at the near post.

Depsite the early pressure from the Robins, it was Hereford who drew first blood, opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Pablo Haysham and Rob Purdie combined effectively on the left flank. With Haysham’s cross to the near-post met by Mike Symons, he was able to side-foot the ball past Josh Hayward to put the Bulls one-up.

Mike Symons Opened The Scoring For Hereford

9 minutes later, Haysham latched onto the end of a long ball forward from Hereford’s defence, but the offside flag had gone up against him by the time he had fired past the keeper. Moments later, ex-Aldershot winger Tristan Plummer shot well-over from a free kick 20-yards out after Pablo Haysham was fouled by James Byrne.

On the half hour mark, John Mills, who scored 52 goals last season, doubled Hereford’s lead. After some great build up from the Bulls to work the ball out to Haysham on the left, he did well to cut into the box and set up Mills worked himself space to fire a diagonal left-footed effort past the keeper.

John Mills With Hereford's Second Of The Match

7 minutes from half time Mills was able to take full advantage of a defensive error as he was gifted the ball by Elliott Ridley, it left Mills with the easy task of rolling the ball past the keeper, with the shot going in off the inside of the post.

With the second half underway, the Whites were unlucky not to add to the scoreline within the first minute. John Mills’ initial shot was denied by the upright before Pablo Haysham’s effort from the rebound was saved by Hayward.

7 minutes later, the Bulls added goal number 4 to their tally courtesy of Mike Symons. Bridgwater’s keeper conceded a corner after coming out of his area to disposes Mills, and it was Pablo Haysham who delivered the ball into the heart of the area. Jimmy Oates couldn’t quite connect with the corner as Callum Laird rushed to clear the danger, but Mike Symons was able to intercept his scuffed clearance and fire the ball into the roof of the net from 12-yards.

Symons With His Second Of The Game

In the 57th minute, John Mills’ diagonal shot from the left of the box was put behind by ex-Bull Jamie Laird. From the resulting corner, Jamie Willets fired narrowly wide at the far-post. But 4 minutes later, Mills completed his hat-trick by scoring the fifth goal of the game, beating his man and slotting home.

Hat-Trick For John Mills

Beadle made his first two changes in the 73rd minute with Jamie Cuss and Joe Tumelty replacing Mike Symons and Tristan Plummer respectively.

Cuss made an instant impact on the game, scoring with his first touch; the ex-Westfields captain rose to meet Pablo Haysham’s corner, powerfully heading the ball past the Robins’ stopper.

Jamie Cuss Makes It 6-0 To Hereford

A couple of late chances from Bridgwater in the dying stages of the game gave Hereford little to worry about as Callum Laird’s snapshot from range easily cleared the crossbar, before a free-kick in the 90th minute was dealt with efficiently by Hereford’s defence.

Substitute Joe Tumelty could’ve added a seventh with seconds left on the clock, but after a good run to the edge of the area he fired well over.
