City Link Road Event at Edgar Street Today

Information about the new Hereford City Link Road will be available at a drop-in event which is being held in the Starlight Rooms at Edgar Street today - the even will run from 12noon to 8pm.

Here's a look back at an article that BN posted at the beginning of the month:

When built the link road will enable around 800 homes to be built on the former Edgar Street Grid site.

The downside is that there will be much less parking close to the football ground.

This from Herefordshire Council:

Griffiths of Abergavenny announced as contractor for City Link Road

The regeneration of Hereford City takes another step forward with the appointment of Alun Griffiths (Construction) for the construction of the City Link Road (CLR).

Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty Living Places evaluated the tenders submitted through an open competitive tender process prior to the awarding of the contract to Alun Griffiths.

Five tenders were received for the contract and Griffiths was the best overall bid.

Councillor Philip Price, Cabinet Member Infrastructure:

“I am happy to announce that Griffiths have been awarded the contract for the road; they are a local company and it’s good for all of us that we are employing a contractor who directly contributes to the local economy through the employment of local people.”

Peter Evans, Project Director, Alun Griffiths Construction Ltd added:

“Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd is once again very pleased to be associated with Herefordshire County for the delivery of another prestigious scheme within the city.

We have, over many years, developed a close working relationship with the county resulting in the successful delivery of significant projects which have provided added value to the local economy.”

The City Link Road will transform Hereford’s city centre, creating the infrastructure to support 800 much needed new homes on the old Edgar Street grid site. Construction will begin in July 2016 and will take around 15 months to complete.

The project will be officially presented at a community ‘drop in’ event which will be held at the Starlight Rooms, Hereford FC on Tuesday 14 June from midday until 8pm. This event is open to anyone who wants to know more about the project and meet the team.

This event will be followed by another event for local residents and businesses later in June.

The CLR is funded through the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Fund.
