16th October 1993 Hereford United 5-0 Colchester
The previous week the Bulls had been thrashed 6-0 at Crewe Alexandra, but bounced with a comprehensive win over Roy McDonough's Colchester. Chris Pike scoring a hat trick which has been etched into the record books as Pike's three goals were scored against three different goalkeepers . Pike opened the scoring with a goal past John Keeley midway through the 1st half.
Just before half time Keeley was dismissed for a foul on Chris Fry, and Pike scored the resulting spot kick past outfield player manager Roy McDonough, as the U's decided against bringing on a substitute goalkeeper with half time being so close.
After a half time re shuffle substitute goalkeeper Nathan Munson entered the field of play, and Pike duly completed his hat trick slotting home from close range. Chris Fry then made it 4-0, but Munson then received his marching orders after clattering into Derek Hall.
Roy McDonough then took on the gloves for a 2nd time and Hall made it 5-0 late on with a header.
