Final Finish Eluded Us Said Beadle

Peter Beadle Talking To Alvechurch Manager Ian Long After The Final Whistle
Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle spoke to the press after this afternoon 1-1 draw at Edgar Street.

"I thought it was a good game," said Beadle.

"I thought we played well enough throughout the first half, second half it was harder work.

"We knew they were going to be a good side and they came and did a job today and did it very well.

"They were well-organised, they were fit and they stuck in there.

"We had the lion's share of possesion but didn't have that quality in the final third to open them up but we had enough chances, enough chances to win the game but we didn't take them. If you don't take chances that's what happens.

"Martin (goalkeeper) hasn't had the busiest of days in goal. Apart from the goal I don't think he had too much to do.

"Their game plan was to try and keep us quiet and try not to let us play our football. But we did it in spells and created chances but we just couldn't put them away.

"So we move onto the next game."

Hereford scored after six minutes.

"Great set-piece and nice to get one from a set piece. Great finish. Then you're thinking if we can get a second one first half maybe a different game.

"But at 1-0 they are always in the game and they got their goal early in the second half.

"Disappointingly it came from our corner. Sometimes we don't recognise danger and they punished us for that.

"After that we've been camped in their half but we didn't quite have that final finish today. Sometimes it alludes you and today it did us.

"The performance was okay, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad, we just played a good side.

"They got bodies in the way and they blocked things up and they are a team that has been together a long time and they won this division a couple of seasons ago and they went up with another team and have come back down with this team.

"So they've been together a long team and they know how to do things. They can play ugly but they can also show in spells today they can play well.

"It was always going to be tough. They put bodies in the way but we weren't quite as clinical.

"You can't blame the boys because they put a good shift in, they worked extremely hard again. They kept probing and trying to find that goal.

"I thought we went a bit long a bit too quickly but that's something we'll talk about and we need to be better at.

"Although Mike won his fair share we just couldn't quite get on the end of things.

"Like I said it was an okay performance, it wasn't great, I know we can play better than that and we have done.

"But fair credit to them, they came and put in a good shift themselves which made for a fairly good game."

Pablo Haysham was subbed early in the second half with what appeared to be a hip problem.

Pablo Haysham
"He's had it for a couple of weeks, his hip flexs a bit tight and with the pitches we've had recently have been a bit wet. Today's is the opposite it's soft but sticky and I think he was just feeling it so we've got good players on the bench just waiting to come on so I changed him early."

Beadle signed James Pilling earlier this week.

"James has got good experience, he's a good age, he's a good size, he's a good athlete and he's a good footballer.

"We've always looking to try and improve the squad and I've been speaking to James on and off throughout the season. Again he's another one I tried to bring in at the start of the year. With work committments and that he couldn't really committ.

"He's a great acquisition. We couldn't get him on today but we've got a lot of games coming up and he'll be good for us as well."
