Exeter supporters remembered Adam Stansfield, who also played for Hereford United, this evening before the start of their FA Cup tie at Liverpool.
This from the Mirror:
Adam Stansfield, who had previously won two promotions with the Grecians, passed away after losing his fight against bowel cancer in August 2010.
Stansfield was a fan favourite among the Exeter ranks, scoring 39 goals in 160 competitive appearances.
Prior to kick-off of Exeter's cup replay at Anfield, fans produced a giant flag, in the shape of a shirt, reading 'Stansfield 9'.
Some of the 6,000 supporters who made the trip up north held up the banner as the teams made their way out onto the pitch.
Stansfield helped lead Exeter through the most successful two years in their history, as they recorded back-to-back promotions from the Conference National to League One in 2009 and 2010.
