Bank Holiday Game At Alvechurch Likely To Be Postponed

Perhaps the most important away game of Hereford FC's season, Alvechurch on Bank Holiday Monday March 28th, is likely be postponed because the HFA has pencilled in that date for the final of the HFA Challenge Cup which is set to take place at Edgar Street.

Obviously if Hereford don't defeat Kington in the semi-final on March 1st then the game at Alvechurch will go ahead.

But if they do, which in all fairness they should, defeat Kington then they will meet either Westfields or Lads Club in the final on March 28th. Then the Alvechurch game will need to be re-arranged probably to a Tuesday evening which might mean the number of Hereford supporters able to watch the game would be somewhat less than had it taken place on the Bank Holiday.

Because Hereford FC play in the Midland League, county cup finals take precedence over League games.

The HFA told Hereford FC some months ago that this final would be held on Bank Holiday Monday but at that time there was no certainty that the club would topping the table and doing well in cup competitions.

Obviously from an HFA point of view a final at Edgar Street with Hereford FC taking part is a potential money-spinner as the proceeds after expenses go to the HFA.

However with Hereford FC currently in the FA Vase, the Midland League Cup, the HFA Cup and with seventeen League games remaining, a fixture pile-up is becoming more likely.

For example if Hereford win their FA Vase draw on Saturday then the replay will take place next Tuesday which would mean that the Midland League Cup Tie against Alvechurch will have to be re-arranged.

And should Hereford make progress in the Midland League cup then another fixture, perhaps more, will have to be slotted in somewhere.

Luckily Hereford have a free Saturday on February 20th when the sixth round of the Vase is due to take place. Should the club get to the semi-finals then the League games set to take place on March 12 and March 19 will need to be re-arranged.

As yet, it's all hypothectical, but should Hereford progress in most, if not all, competitions there will be a lot of football to be played before the season ends, possibly seven or eight more games than listed below.
