It's Been A Pleasure To Help Said Ellis

Earlier this week one of Hereford FC's 'benefactors', Mark Blandford, spoke about why he had put money into the new club. This morning another of the group of four, Mark Ellis, revealed why he had helped.

"I think that the club needed a financial base to give it some clout to start again," Ellis told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"The fans have done a fantastic job but business needs to stand up and individuals to give it that leg up it needs.

"It's started from nothing, the club was in administration, it had to completely reform, it had nothing so far as a capital base was concerned.

"A few of us had stood up, it is public now, probably the worst kept secret.

"I have been a life-long fan and I've been lucky enough to have had some business success.

"It's probably the best/worst investment I've made but I think the reality it's great, it's wonderful.

"It's an investment back into what Hereford needed, the city has suffered in many ways. We've lost the racecourse, the golf club. We've seen many things disappear. Hereford United was one of those.

"For it to disappear was heart breaking so it's been a pleasure to help in some way.

"We are investors, we will get some shares for our investment.

"The board report to the shareholders

"As far as our influence over day to day, it's left to the board, it's left to the management team to run the club."

Ellis was asked what the feelings would be like this afternoon.

"I think it's one of great antisipation and joy. I think under the Agombar regime it split fans, we saw a divided community with the club.

"A lot of people were worried where the club was going, who owned it.

"I think now it's back, it's got local people, it's got support.

"There's a whole united feel to it. I know we can't use the words Hereford United but it's back there. It'a great feeling."
