News Round-Up

Bristol Rovers have told a court that it would be a 'financial catastrophe' if Sainsburys do not complete the deal to buy their stadium as they plan a new ground, and that the court must force the supermarket to complete the deal rather than impose damages. The club are accused of changing the terms of the contract over a levy imposed by the local Council, an accusation a club director admitted, and the case continues.

Port Vale owner Norman Smuthwaite says the club has had to slash the wage bill for next season or their future would have been in doubt. Attendances had dropped 20% over the past year, costing £600,000 in revenue, and a poor season in the cups had cost them a further £300,000 leaving several players to be offered reduced terms for the coming season including star striker Tom Pope.

Gateshead say they have five interested bidders in taking over the club. Interest has been shown locally as well as from France and Texas. Former Bull Josh Gowling is one of twelve players to be offered contracts for next season by Grimsby. The 31 year old missed the play-off final due to injury having made five appearances following his loan move from Kidderminster.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince has demanded an apology from Newport manager Terry Butcher after he claimed that Darren Jones moved to the Gumpers for the money. Jones and Vince say the 31 year old moved to challenge for promotion, with the player saying that the Exiles would not be promotion challengers having released '13 of my friends'.
