Familiar Faces Stand In Council Elections

A number of Edgar Street familiar faces are standing in the Herefordshire Council elections next month.

The County has been re-organised with 53 seats now available as individual wards rather than having multiple Councillors for some wards.

Hereford FC Director Hugh Brooks is a candidate in Eign Hill for the Lib Dems, while HUST Board member Paul Stevens is running for the City Council in the Widemarsh ward, which includes the Edgar Street ground, for IOC. Andy Swift, who is set to join the HUST board as the new Prize Bull lottery co-ordinator, stands as an Independent in the Kings Acre ward.

Vocal Councillor Jim Kenyon stands for the Tupsley ward for It's Our County (IOC) against challengers from the Conservatives and Lib Dems.

A number of other familiar faces are also running. Jamal Haider, of Jamal's in Bridge Street, stands for IOC in Newton Farm, while Litten Tree manager Paul Neades also stands for IOC in Hagley.

Roger Goodwin, currently with the HFA and formerly of Bulls News, stands as an Independent in College ward.

The only seat where there is no race is that of Kington, where former Lib Dem Council leader Terry James stands unopposed.
