Former Hereford United striker Delroy Facey has been found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of conspiracy to commit bribery in a match fixing plot.

He is expected to be sentenced later this afternoon.

Facey denied conspiring to bribe lower league player to get them to fix matches but was convicted.

It was said that Facey had acted as a middleman for a betting syndicate. His job was to find players he could bribe to throw matches, concede bookings or own goals.

Judge Mary Stacey commented that what Facey had done 'struck at the very heart of football.'

"You have been a role model but you have abused that position."

UPDATE: Facey had been jailed for 30 months.

Facey joined the Bulls in June 2011. During the 2011/12 season he made fourty appearances and scored six goals. However his contract was not renewed.
