Fans Team Defeated By Five

The Hereford United Supporters Team travelled to their new home at Old School Lane in an away clash with Pegasus Juniors. Player/manager for the game was Tony James, who remained in his centre back role that he held on Sunday at Malvern. Luke Brimfield, Paul Harrison ad Joey Pritchard all made their debuts for the Supporters Team.

Early on in the first half, a long ball upfield from ex-bull Tony James was met by the feet of Jack Tomlinson, whose half-volley went harmlessly out for a goal kick. Down the other end of the pitch, it was now Pegasus’ turn to test the keeper with an athletic overhead kick, but the shot on goal lacked any real conviction and was easily gathered by Bulls’ keeper Luke Brimfield.

Tony James cleared a ball from defence out to Tomlinson on the wing, who crossed the ball to Hereford's number 4 waiting on the edge of the 18-yard box, but his scuffed shot was smothered by Pegasus’ keeper.

Zac Brimble broke the deadlock midway through the first period, when his volley from the centre of the box rocketed past Brimfield and into the back of the net.

Following a save from a Pegasus chance, Brimfield released Hereford’s 7 down the right flank, he combined well with Tomlinson in the centre, but his chip over the keeper and into the goal was deemed offside by the referee’s assistant.

Hereford were granted a goal worthy chance on the stroke of halftime when a well-read pass was intercepted on the edge of the area. A short pass to number 8 left him one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot screwed wide of the upright.

HT: Pegasus 1 - Hereford 0

As was the case Sunday, the second 45 minutes didn’t compare to the first. Sam Pearson was quick to test Hereford’s keeper Brimfield when his shot from 10-yards was only parried, but eventually cleared by ex-Bull Gareth Davies. Shortly after, Hereford’s fans team conceded their first penalty after Ben Price was brought down inside the box. Sam Hunt made no mistake in converting the spotkick to double the host’s lead.

As Hereford tried to gain momentum, Pegasus’ Sam Hunt won possession and then cut in from the right-wing to try his luck. The initial shot was cleared off the line by media man Jamie Griffiths, but the follow-up shot was driven into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Occasional chances for the Bulls’ followed, but nothing much to test Pegasus’ keeper. Again, it was the hosts who proved the better side as a cross was whipped in from the left wing into the path of the onrushing Sam Pearson, who managed to put the ball past Brimfield.

A mix-up at the back saw Pegasus win a free kick on the edge of the danger area. Sam Hunt’s shot around the three man wall hit the outside of the upright. On the 85th minute, Pegasus managed to grab a 5th when Hereford’s right back was turned all too easily allowing for a cross into Ben Price who was on hand to put the game to bed.

As on Sunday, Hereford competed well in the first half but the second was a different story as the fitness of the opposition told. Maybe a fitness coach and dietician should be the next signings for the fans team? Well done to all involved, as an enjoyable evening was had by all.

Next up is Royston Town XI away on Saturday 23rd August, followed by the Mayor’s XI at Hinton FC on Sunday 24th August.
