Number eight on the Bulls Advent Calendar is Ben Smith.
The former Arsenal trainee had two separate spells with the Bulls, having origninally made a footballing impression at Yeovil before the departure of Colin Addison as manager saw the offer of a new contract withdrawn. An unsuccessful spell under former Glovers boss Dave Webb at Southend saw him join the Bulls in the summer of 2002.
He made a total of 168 league and cup appearances for the Bulls, scoring 28 times. Despite committing the cardinal sin of leaving the Bulls for Shrewsbury - an act repaid by his torture by Gary Peters for the bulk of his 18 month Gay Meadow stay - he returned to a heroes welcome in January 2007, the first player the Bulls had paid cash for in ten years.
Now 35, and splitting his time between part-time football with Thurrock and educating Essex, Smith is writing his autobiography and plans to return to Edgar Street with the book when it is finished.
