News Round-Up

Alfreton have extended the loan of Mansfield striker Jake Speight to the end of the year. The 28 year old scored on his second appearance for the club at the weekend. The Reds have also allowed utility player Jack Andrews to join Grantham Town on loan for an initial month. Wrexham defender Neil Ashton has begun coaching the club's reserve side, with the 28 year old starting his coaching courses.

Braintree chairman Lee Harding says the club haven't budgeted for a FA Cup run this season as "There are too many clubs out there that get knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle and then have to slash the budget and release players. We've never operated like that, it's a foolish, nonsensical way of trying to plan for your future. You can only budget for things that you know you're going to have and if windfalls come along – football fortune as they call it – then great, you can enjoy the fruits of that."

Lincoln boss Gary Simpson says he has had an offer for an unnamed 6ft 3in striker rejected by a club, telling the local press: "the club don’t want to let him go, but that does not mean the lad doesn’t want to come." Dartford have signed keeper Tommy Forecast from Chelmsford on a months loan. The 27 year old spent last season as no.2 on loan at Gillingham from Southampton.

Telford say they expect to announce a profit for last season at their AGM, despite suffering relegation. Managing Director Lee Carter told the local press: “In the face of some tough economic conditions and a relegation, that is quite an achievement for us. There are significant running costs in running a football club, full stop. We don’t do debt or bank overdrafts but we have thousands of people who help keep the football club on the road. We have 19 different lines of revenue and not all are football related, that just shows how we interact with our community.”

Former Cheltenham forward Julian Alsop is making headlines again after being accused of leaving a trial of debts after a coaching course he was running collapsed. Alsop, who was sacked by Oxford after allegedly assaulting an apprentice with a banana, refused to talk to a reporter from the Bristol Post with the paper claiming he owes youngsters hundreds of pounds each. He is also claimed by the paper to owe fellow coach Shane Duff as well as Bishop's Cleeve FC, who told the paper they were owed £3,000.

Lincoln have recalled striker Conner Robinson from his loan spell at Gainsborough, and he will be part of their FA Cup game against Worcester. The teenager has been on loan at the Conf North side since August. Luton have brought former England goalkeeper David James in to help with training. The 43 year old, whose last playing appearance was for Bournemouth in January, is studying for his coaching badges.
