Cambridge manager Richard Money, speaking after today's 1-0 win over Hereford, questioned whether his side's supporters sometimes understood the game.
“The first half we played extremely well and should have gone at half
time more than one, didn’t force home our advantage,” said Money.
“The
second half was a struggle and it was a struggle because you have to
give full credit to Hereford. They went for it, left four up, gambled
and we had to be strong, mentally, to see it through.
“If anyone
thinks we sat deep in the second half, they don’t know about the game.
We got pushed deep because they really forced the issue.
“It’s
amazing how, suddenly, all the experts reappear. I said in my programme
notes, you don’t need people when you’re winning 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 - don’t
need them then.
“I wanted to walk into the middle of the pitch in
the first half, like Russell Crowe - ‘are you not entertained?’ Because
we did entertain them, but it was quiet as a mouse.
“In the second
half, when we got under pressure, and people are flipping saying, ‘push
up, push up’, do they not understand the game?
“I think I’m right in saying we’re seven points clear, and I think I’m right in saying that’s the club record start to a season.
"For the last 10 minutes you’d think we were in the bottom four. It’s not acceptable, and it’s not good enough.”
