Silkmen To Slash Budget

Macclesfield will operate next season on a budget of just £250,000, the Non-League Paper claims.

New manager John Askey told the paper: "The budget is about a third of what we had to work with last year so it will be a challenge but it's one we're certainly up for."

Askey expects top scorer Matthew Barnes-Homer to follow a string of players out of the door, with Wrexham, Forest Green, and Mansfield touted as suitors.

Assistant manager Efe Sodje has also confirmed he will continue playing. The 40 year old previously turned out for the Silkmen between 1997 and 1999, and has racked up over 600 career appearances ahead of his 20th professional season.
