Nationwide Account May Be Bond Money

Speculation continues that the 'Nationwide Account' recently found at Edgar Street could have contained money received by Hereford United from Herefordshire Council back in 2001.

BN readers may remember that an old Nationwide Account book was found at Edgar Street recently. After discussions with the Nationwide, the building society decided to pay out the money to the club.

It's now thought that the amount of money in the account may be the money received from the Council after then chairman Graham Turner had some work done on the Sportsman Club which was fire-damaged in 1995.

Developers Formsole lodged a £100K bond with the Council in 1999. The bond was supposedly to be paid out to the club after the Sportsman Club was refurbished.

There's no mention of a payment from the Council in the Hereford United accounts for the year ended May 31st 2002 but both the Hereford Journal and Hereford Times reported a payment from the Council to the club in July 2001.
