Port Vale have been blocked from signing free agent midfielder Chris Birchall due to a transfer embargo.
The Valiants are reported to have failed to pay their latest tax bill leading to the Football League blocking all further transfer activity at Vale Park. Acting Chairman Mike Lloyd confirmed to the press that the club had suffered losses this season of around £200,000 due to falling gates and anti-board protests.
