Results Round-Up

History probably dictated that we were to be joint 17th after the opening round of games.

Newboys AFC Wimbledon lost 3-2 at home to Bristol Rovers in the televised game after fighting back from two down. Fellow debutants Crawley were denied a win at Port Vale with defender John Dempster getting himself sent off, allowing the Valiants to grab a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw.

Swindon head the first day table after beating Crewe 3-0, but it left veteran Railwaymen boss Dario Gradi fuming after his side wasted a bucketful of first half chances. Aldershot also earned a win, beating Bradford 2-1, along with Dagenham and Barnet. The Daggers had to hold on to their 1-0 win over Macclesfield with ten men, while the Bees beat Morecambe by the same scoreline. Rotherham were the other winners of the day, beating betting dark horses Oxford 1-0 at the Don Valley Stadium.

Three other games were draws, with Northampton goalless against Accrington, Shrewsbury conceded a late equaliser against Plymouth in their 1-1 draw, and Burton sacrificed a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Torquay.

Tuesday's Carling Cup opponents Brentford beat Yeovil 2-0 in League One, while none of the sides promoted from League Two could celebrate a win. Bury drew at Huddersfield, Stevenage played out a goalless draw with Exeter, Chesterfield lost 1-0 at Tranmere, and Wycombe drew 1-1 with Scunthorpe.
