News Round-Up

Northampton have signed former Crewe defender Ashley Westwood on non-contract terms. The veteran defender is on an extended trial after his short term deal at Gresty Road expired. Cobblers' player-coach Andy Holt will miss the start of the season after dislocating his shoulder. Cheltenham may have to scrap their Centre of Excellence at the end of this season after the club decided to channel some of it's funds into the first team instead.

Bad news for food lovers in that Gillingham have signed a seven year deal with Lindley Catering to handle all the food outlets at Priestfield. Club chairman Paul Scally obviously didn't look very hard for references, telling the press: "We have contacts throughout the footballing world, and those using Lindley's services all spoke highly of them." Plymouth are in talks with former Barnet and Darlington striker Tresor Kandol, who has been playing in the Spanish second tier recently.

Port Vale are in a war of words with Nantwich Town over an unpaid bill for use of the non-leaguers 3G pitches during last winter. The Valiants have failed to pay the £1,200 bill, saying they were to play a friendly at the club to pay for the cost. Nantwich say the friendly was part of the fee for their former player Ritchie Sutton and had nothing to do with the 3G bill. The friendly was cancelled during the row, costing Nantwich £6,000.
