Conference asks for Assurances from Wrexham

With reports that staff and the Revenue are owed money, pre-season fixtures cancelled and one of the owners talking about moving abroad, it's difficult to see whether Wrexham Football Club will be able to start the season, let alone finish it, without extra investment from somewhere.

And to top it all the Football Conference have contacted the North Wales club asking for assurances about its future.

"The Football Conference is concerned about on-going events at Wrexham Football Club and has requested, as a matter of urgency, that the club furnish full details of their position immediately."

Although it's reported that Glyndwr University is discussing plans which could see it buy into the Racecourse with the Wrexham Supporters Trust buying the football club, other recent 'offers' have come to nothing and one of those in charge, Geoff Moss, says the current owners have run out of money.

"Everyone is working hard behind the scenes to overcome the present difficulties," Moss told BBC Sport.

"Despite certain myths, the current owners do not have the available cash to cover this current shortfall, until a sale is complete."

Speculation that former Wales international Robbie Savage might be interested in investing have not been confirmed.

Wrexham are due to start their season on August 13th with a home game against Cambridge.
