There will be a Preliminary Round of the Carling Cup this season due to Birmingham City's participation in Europe.
Their Europa League qualification, and subsequent relegation from the Premier League, means there will be one less side in the opening draw with the Championship side exempted until Round Three. To balance things up the two lowest ranked sides, based on league tables, will face each other to even up the numbers.
The League newcomers, Crawley and AFC Wimbledon, will face off on July 29th for a place in the First Round. The full First Round draw will be released on Thursday with the Bulls likely to face a Southern based Championship or League One side.
Among those likely opponents are West Ham, Cardiff, and Portsmouth.
