You're Either Pregnant or You're Not

A clearly disappointed David Keyte, the Hereford United chairman, has given his reaction to today's Football League hearing into the use of two 'un-registered players', one by Hereford and one by Torquay, during their recent game.

"Bitterly disappointed," Keyte told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"We had a long opportunity to put our case, about two hours.

"The line of our argument was that we have two clubs that have offended in exactly the same way, for the same match, and our expectation was that the penalty would be the same.

"We've left the hearing to discover that Torquay have been penalised just one point to our three with an identical financial fine.

"That's left us a little bit bemused and disappointed.

"I think the panel seems to have waived the previous prescidence of what you gain in the match you lose.

"But then they've taken a point off a club that didn't win a point in Torquay's case. So new ground.

"We have a right of appeal. We wait now for about seven days to get the written explanation. There was no explanation given to us by the panel, only the verdict. And then we will appeal and we have 28 days to do so.

"You're either pregnant or you're not pregnant and the deadline was 12 noon.

"On that line our paperwork was with the Football League by 2.30pm, Torquay's wasn't there until 10.00pm.

"So whichever angle you go at we have a slightly stronger case than Torquay's, or so we thought and yet we are walking away with three times the penalty."
