Bulls Await Hearing Decision

Bulls fans will be awaiting the outcome of today's disciplinary hearing over the ineligible player at Ashton Gate.

The hearing is set for 11.30am, with no timescale set on a decision. The Football League panel will consider charges against both the Bulls and Torquay relating to the game between the sides on February 1st.

The Bulls have been charged with fielding Rob Purdie without him being registered in time, while the Gulls have been charged with fielding Jake Robinson under similar circumstances.

Both clubs are likely to argue confusion over the rules governing signings, with three different deadlines on transfer deadline day for different types of signings. It has already been reported that the FL acknowledge that the rules need to be simplified, a point that should work in the clubs' favour.

While the precedent is for a club to lose any points gained whilst fielding ineligible players there are exceptions. Accrington fielded a pair of ineligible players as subs and escaped with a fine, while there has never been a case of both sides being charged over the same game. Some argue, with good reason, that as both sides 'cheated' there was no advantage.

Common sense is hoped to prevail. But this is football...
