Some of the pre-match chat in and around the ground on Saturday before the game focused the topic of "who was the keeper who scored against Barnet".
Several names were banded about before Club historian, Ron Parrott suggested Chris MacKenzie. "You sure Ron?" I asked. "It'll be in the book" he answered….and, of course, he was right.
On the opening day of Graham Turner's first season at Edgar Street, The Bulls entertained The Bees and handed out a 4-1 trouncing.
It was the twelve of August 1995 when MacKenzie's punt downfield bounced over the head of Maik Taylor who was making his League debut. Taylor went on to play for Southampton and Fulham before joining Birmingham City where he is still registered as a player and has made 7 appearances this season for the Premiership outfit.
Now 38 years of age, MacKenzie is currently registered with Alfreton Town in The Conference North.
