FA Community Awards launched in Hereford

The FA Community Awards, presented by McDonald’s, was launched today in Hereford as the search begins for deserving individuals.

The awards recognise outstanding contribution to football at grassroots level; championing those volunteers, clubs and coaches that demonstrate unstinting support to the development of our national game.

The FA is calling on people from across the region for nominations for the eight award categories so that they might be recognised for their achievements.

The eight award categories are:

•Outstanding Contribution to Community Football Award
•Volunteer of the Year
•Young Volunteer of the Year
•Coach of the Year
•FA Charter Standard Community Club
•FA Charter Standard Development Club
•FA Charter Standard Club of the Year
•FA Charter Standard League of the Year
To find out more about the awards, read about last year’s winners and nominate an individual club or league from your community, log onto www.herefordshirefa.com or speak to the Herefordshire County FA on 01432 342 179 or val.lambert@herefordshirefa.com.

Nominations close on March 18 and a shortlist of candidates will be selected by a judging panel which will include Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Trevor Brooking.

The eight national award winners will be announced at the FA and McDonald’s Community Awards dinner which is this year being held at Wembley on the day of the FA and McDonald’s Community Shield, August 7.

Sir Geoff Hurst, McDonald’s Director of Football, said: “Grassroots football is at the heart of the national game and every week across the country, people dedicate their time and energy to provide a professional, fun and rewarding football experience for the local community.

“We are delighted that The FA and McDonald’s have recognised these clubs and individuals with the Community Awards and believe this is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the dedication and commitment shown by clubs, coaches, players and volunteers across the UK and so we’d urge people to nominate.”
