Stockport have sacked Paul Simpson, making him the third managerial casualty of the day.
Following Charlton and Walsall in dispensing with the manager the Hatters have acted after losing at home on Saturday, their sixth home game on the trot that they have failed to win. That run was started by the Bulls' 5-0 demolition.
Simpson leaves with a record of just five wins in 27 matches after admitting pre-season that it would be an achievement to keep the near-bankrupt side in the Football League.
The Hatters have put long-time club coach and assistant boss Peter Ward in charge of team affairs, and have promised supporters there will be several new players arriving in the January transfer window.
