Yates: "We Haven't Got The Quality"

Speaking to the press after the game, Cheltenham boss Mark Yates was thoroughly disappointed:

"I'm lost for words. If we had got the goal then maybe we would have gone on to win the game but we didn't do that. If Julian Alsop's effort had gone in just after half time then maybe we would have been stood here talking differently but it didn't and we've been defeated.

"We gave a stupid goal away and given them something to hang onto. Tonight has shown that we lack that quality on the final ball and to open teams up. We got balls into the box but we didn't give our strikers many clear cut opportunities. The keeper has made a few good saves but we didn't test him enough.

"We are where we are in the table because we haven't got that quality to open teams up when we need to and take responsibility. We haven't done enough to go on and win the game and we're bitterly disappointed.

"I apologise to the fans because it wasn't good enough against ten men. We've got to stick together and keep working hard. Maybe I've got to go and get a couple of players this week and hopefully Michael Townsend will be back for this weekend and that should make us stronger back there. The problem is bringing the right player in but in all honesty we need a lot of new players because really the squad isn't good enough. Perhaps we need a couple of new faces to freshen us up because that was disappointing.

"I think we could have had a couple of penalties but I'm not making excuses. Barry's first one and then the third one was a definate penalty. Thornhill was clattered into but when you don't work hard enough then you don't get those decisions."
