News Round Up

Darlington forward Noel Whelan's future at the club is in doubt after he lasted just three minutes of his comeback after three months out with a hamstring injury. He lasted only 34 minutes of his debut, and the hamstring went again on his first run last night. Barnet defender Ishmael Yakubu is set to miss several weeks after suffering a back spasm just four minutes into last night's draw with Torquay. He was taken to hospital but later released.

Bournemouth are facing another payment deadline after former majority shareholder John Piper secured a 14 day order to repay an outstanding £24,000 loan. The club say they are confident of meeting the deadline, while they are also to seek another meeting with the FL due to their current injury crisis. Rotherham have named a former foundry as the site for their new stadium in the town. The site has also been earmarked for new council offices as part of a large scale 'Rotherham Renaissance' redevelopment plan.

Notts County owner Peter Trembling says the new investors are 'people who have worked in football before'. A report from this morning's court action says two creditors, neither the taxman, wanted to push the club into bankruptcy today. One of the creditors was owed just £3,791. They will remain subject to a transfer embargo until they satisfy the Football League that the new investment will be sufficient to allow further expenditure on wages.

Macclesfield vice chairman Andy Scott has warned supporters the club will fold if they continue to attract gates of 1,000. He says the club has 'always punched above it's weight' by being a Football League side. Maidstone's immediate future has been secured by Chris Smalling's transfer from Fulham to Man Utd. The club had not paid their players for seven weeks, but have now received funds from Fulham. What is more remarkable is that Fulham did not have to pay them a penny for the player, who was not under contract when the Cottagers took him, but they agreed to a series of donations as he progressed.

Ex-Bull Chris Hargreaves has left Torquay on a free transfer for Oxford. He was released by the U's in 2007 by former boss Jim Smith.
