Trewick - very happy with performance

Hereford United's first home win of the season, and the first in eight league and cup games, was richly deserved and as manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"They are a big club, just out of the Championship and they have some good players.

"They made a few changes but there were still some good players in their side, obviously, but there were good players in our team as well.

"We had some good chances apart from the goal that we scored so I am very happy with the performance."

Jony Godsmark scored the only goal of the game.

"Jon's a good player. He just needs to believe in himself," said Trewick.

"Several of our players need to believe in themselves, a little bit more - there's more to come from them.

"I do believe we are capable of going onto even better things."

The next round of the Carling Cup is in two weeks time. The draw takes place tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at 10pm on Sky Sports News.

Meanwhile it has to be hoped that illness affecting firstly Jamie Tolley and secondly Leon Constantine does not spread to others in the squad in advance of Saturday's game against Cheltenham.

Update: John Trewick later confirmed that Constantine had missed the game after the birth of his son. H&W originally mentioned illness.

Marc Pugh had to be subbed during extra time after a knock to the upper right leg. He appeared to be wearing an ice-pack at the end of the game.

Finally Stuart Fleetwood came on as a sub for Charlton. The former Bulls striker received a reasonable welcome from supporters.

At the end of the game he clapped the Meadow End and shook hands with most, if not all, the Hereford United squad.
