In his five seasons at Pride Park, Morris played just 92 games scoring 17 times. He had a short loan spell with Huddersfield in this period.

In 2004, Morris signed for Leicester City but failed to get on the scoresheet in any of his ten appearences. Spells followed at Yeovil Town and Burton Albion. For the Glovers, Morris was part of their team that reached the 2006/2007 play-off final at Wembley against Blackpool eventually going down 3-0. Morris scored in the semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest in a pulsating encounter which eventually ended 5-4 to Yeovil on aggregate. Morris featured at Edgar Street the following season in a Carling Cup match where Lionel Ainsworth grabbed all the headlines with a stunning hattrick. In March 2008, Morris has his contract terminated by Yeovil after another major injury, with the striker stating "I shall need another manager with the patience and foresight of Russell Slade". Morris played for the Brewers last season and despite only scoring 7 goals in 28 games, was highly praised by management and supporters alike for his role in taking Burton into the Football League.
