Merthyr go into Administration

Not unexpectedly, Merthyr Tydfil have been placed into administration. Their supporters trust made the application to the High Court earlier today.

"It was absolutely necessary that this happened," said Merthyr Supporters' Trust general secretary John Strand.

"It's a chance for a new start with new people running the club."

For sometime the trust have tried to take over control from owner Wyn Holloway but couldn't agree a deal.

With the club in administration, the trust is likely to be involved in some sort of takeover.

"We certainly would be interested in making a bid but are not averse to working with other people who have more resources than us if they wish to make a bid," said Strand.

"I know there are people interested, but if we have to, we will work on our own."
