Yeovil worry about their Finances

Although they have just reported a small profit in the year to last June, Yeovil Town are worried about their future finances.

The results just released show that the Somerset club made a profit of £28,000 on a surprisingly high turnover of £4 million. However these figures included the sale of two players.

This season gates are down, there have not been any transfers of note and operating costs up by 6%.

"Unlike most clubs we managed to stay in the black in 2008 which was pleasing," Yeovil Chief Executive, Martyn Starnes told their OS.

"However, trading conditions in the current season have been considerably more difficult. League attendances have fallen for the third year in a row, there was no significant cup run and we have not received any revenue from player transfers.

"These issues combined with the general downturn in the economy have created an extremely challenging environment in which to operate.

"We have been conducting a review of the business over the last few weeks to identify areas where we can reduce costs but at the same time protect the football budget."

Wages and salaries rose from £2,391,432 to £2,438,080. The club employs 91 people in total with 32 said to be playing staff. There are 30 employed in the Management and Administrative areas of the club.
