Darlo Release 'Majority Of Players'

If they make it Darlington will start next season with a virtually new squad after Administrators released the bulk of their playing staff.

An announcement late last night reads: "Following the end of the playing season and the expiry of the player deferral agreements and considering the reduced levels of income in the close season, the administrator has unfortunately been forced to allow the majority of the first team playing squad to leave the club with immediate effect. This decision has been made to enable the club to trade for as long as possible in order to allow any potential buyer as much time as possible in order to make an offer for the club."

Former players Craig Liddle and Neil Maddison have been placed in charge of football matters at the club but it is rumoured that they have only one professional player, teenage midfielder Josh Gray, and the youth team to handle.

The club have announced two high profile friendlies, against Sunderland and Leeds, in order to raise funds - but neither match is until July.
