Leeds sack McAllister

Leeds United have sacked manager Gary McAllister just two weeks before they come to Edgar Street to play Hereford United.

His dismissal comes after a dismal run of results for the Yorkshire side whose chairman is Ken Bates.

"The board took the decision following the recent poor run that has seen the club slip to ninth in League One," says a statement on the club's website.

"The decision was made to ensure that the new manager, when appointed, has the maximum number of games possible to move the club up the table."

McAllister took over from Dennis Wise last January.

Currently they are 9th in League One.

Meanwhile here is a list, adapted from Ciderspace, of the nine managers sacked in League One this season to date and how long they lasted.

Stan Ternent (Huddersfield) - 6 months
Maurice Malpas (Swindon) - 10 months
Gary McAllister (Leeds) - 11 months
Keith Downing (Cheltenham) - 11 months
John Ward (Carlisle) - 13 months
Steve Holland (Crewe) - 19 months
Geraint Williams (Colchester) - 26 months
Danny Wilson (Hartlepool) - 30 months

Meanwhile former Halifax boss Chris Wilder is the new manager at Oxford. Wilder has been assistant boss at Bury since leaving the bankrupt Shaymen in the summer.
