Ward to referee Scunthorpe Match

Gavin Ward has been named to referee next Saturday's League One match between Hereford United and Scunthorpe.

Ward was promoted to the League from the Conference at the start of last season and for his first match he was given the Barnet/Hereford United game last August which the Bulls won 2-1.

A penalty converted by Trevor Benjamin and a goal by Theo Robinson helped the Bulls gain three points but it was probably Ward's decision to send off Joe Devera that turned the game.

Benjamin got the wrong side of the Barnet defence, and Devera pulled back at the former Peterborough striker. The referee at first didn't look interested, but a wave of the flag from his assistant changed this. After a short talk with the assistant, the ref showed a straight red to Devera.
