Southend boss Steve Tilson told their official site that his side deserved the win:
"It was a relief to win, to be honest. We thoroughly deserved to win, especially with our first half performance. We looked bright and were passing the ball around well. With better finishing we would have scored four or five goals.
"Overall, it was a dogged performance from us in the end to get the three points, even though Hereford didn't really have too many chances. We had to dig in, but I think collectively it showed how tight we are.
"When Steve (Mildenhall) got injured I feared the worse. He will now be going for an x-ray and we will find out the results as soon as possible. Hopefully, he hasn't broken anything, but our physio John Stannard fears he may have broken his ankle. It shows the commitment of Steve and even though he didn't have too much to do, when he was pressed into action he did well.
