Jones and Toshack square-up over Parry's Departure

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones and Welsh supremo John Toshack have reportedly came close to blows over former Hereford United player Paul Parry's decision to quit the Welsh squad last week.

Witnesses have claimed that Toshack, said to be fuming over a press release put out by the Bluebirds about the reasons for Parry's decision (see earlier articles on Bulls News), stormed into Jones’ office at Cardiff City's training headquarters on Friday.

The two men were separated by players and staff and Jones then threw Toshack out of the office.

The events were confirmed by a press officer with the Welsh FA, Ceri Stennett.

"There was a meeting and a frank discussion between the two managers," Stennett told Wales on Sunday. "It was a strong exchange of views and cross words were said.

"This was a difference of opinion between two men."

Another eye-witness said:

"John Toshack suddenly appeared and barged into the manager’s office.

"He started poking his finger towards Jones’ chest.

"Dave Jones is a strong man, a strong personality and you can imagine how he reacted to that.

"Toshack was told in two words to leave the office – and he was then thrown out of the Cardiff City offices altogether.

"He barged past players red-faced, with Jones close behind him.

"It looked at one stage that there would be punches thrown, it was that intense, but thankfully nothing like that happened.

"It was purely a verbal confrontation.

"We don’t have a clue why John Toshack felt it was okay to go into Dave’s office like that."

Parry's decision not to play for Wales has been top of the football news in the principality for most of the last week. Whilst others criticised his decision, Jones defended him at a press conference last Thursday.

However Parry has since told his colleagues at Cardiff City that the timing of his decision was wrong.
