Stockport boss Jim Gannon is still chasing one time Bulls target Kevin Ellison, but he has decided to wait for Chester to organise themselves.
He told the Stockport Express: "There is a slightly strange situation going on at Chester, and I've decided to distance myself from it now.
"Kevin was having some contractual difficulties, but he knows we're still interested in him. We're waiting for him to call us but we are already looking at alternative targets of course."
It was 'contractual difficulties' that scuppered the deal in February, while the PFA inspired transfer embargo did little to dissuade rumours that wages were constantly late or - in some cases - not being paid at all.
