Tomorrow's game against Bury has been, in part, sponsored by some of the members of Bulls Banter the independent Hereford United fans forum. Their guests for the day will be seventies meadowend legend Eric Redrobe and his wife.
Redrobe joined The Bulls from Southport in October '72 following an indifferent start to life in The Football League and despite a meagre return in terms of goals scored he became a firm favourite with supporters with his "all action" robust style of play.
The arrival of "Big Red" prompted an upturn in results which saw The Bulls storm to the runners-up spot and gain promotion to what was then Division 3. Never shy of a challenge, it’s maybe no surprise to know that Wigan Rugby League Club had offered Eric terms before choosing the round ball game. His strength and determination enabled him to continue playing after his professional career ended and he is believed to have still played competitive rugby at the age of 52!
Redrobe now works as a Court Bailiff in his native Wigan.
