Today is the final day for loan signings to be made ahead of January's transfer window.
After today only free agents who have not been contracted to another club subject to the window since August can be signed by League clubs. New arrivals at Edgar Street today are unlikely, with four players already in on loan, although Graham Turner may choose to farm out unused youngsters Jordan Fitzpatrick and Marcus Palmer to see them in meaningful action.
The pair, who have had limited chances in the first team since arriving at the start of last season, and Sam Gwynne are operating on six month deals that were announced in June. Gwynne has made a trio of appearances from the bench this season and the coaching staff are quietly confident of his future in the game.
Turner is more likely to focus his attention on January to acquire players, with eight players futures in doubt beyond the month. The loans of Theo Robinson and Toumani Diagouraga both expire, but can be extended through the rest of the season, and Robbie Threlfall will depart in the later stages of the month. Lee Collins' loan, also a short term deal, will only be extendable until mid February, while Simon Johnson is another who will be out of contract in the New Year.
Turner also has the ability, thanks to the Leeds games, to approach the Football League with a revised turnover plan that could see the budget allowed under the wage capping rules to be increased.
