Gate Prices - Analysis

With the gate prices announced today there are some good deals to be had, but some season ticket purchasers may wish they had waited.

With tickets for under 10's being advertised again at £3 - in advance - all season, anyone who has bought a season ticket for an under 10 could be at least £20 (after membership) out of pocket, and as much as £150 after the discount ends, with the announcement of the gate prices.

Even those children over 10 will save £63 (£42 terrace) on standard season ticket prices when the discounted period ends tomorrow by purchasing tickets on the day, which suggests that further reductions to the current child season ticket prices need to be considered to make them an attractive proposition.

However the introduction of free additional tickets for Adult season ticket holders will be a welcome boost to the value of the adult season tickets. This addition will give the holder an effective six games free, albeit through additional tickets for friends.

This policy had been adopted by a number of clubs during the latter period of last season to good effect, although none had openly advertised it with the season tickets themselves until the season was well underway.

The 'free' ticket games are likely to be low profile games and spread through the season, with Macclesfield already announced. Morecambe, the Saturday before Christmas, would be a likely candidate with money tight for most people at that time of year, while a cold January evening watching Barnet is unlikely to attract a throng of casual supporters.
