Wednesday 20th November 1968
FA Cup 1st Round (Proper) Replay at Plainmoor
Torquay United v Hereford United

Following a 0-0 draw at Edgar Street on the Saturday, the Southern League Bulls travelled to the South West for a 7.30pm kick-off against their then League Division 3 opponents. United were managed at the time by the legendary John Charles and in addition to the great man, included no less than five under 23 Welsh Internationals in the side. The United line up was Lyn Davies, Roy Evans, John Bird, Dave Summerhayes, Brian Purcell, Alan (Trampus) Jones, Alan Scarrott, Brian Punter, Charles, Albert Derrick and Mick Lewis.

Torquay were managed by Frank O’Farrell and included ex West Ham and England centre half Ken Brown who later went on to play for The Bulls. The referee was none other than a certain Clive Thomas from Treorchy who although being in only his second season as a League Ref was already appointed to the FIFA list.

The programme, priced at 9d (3.75p in new money), included an advert for Torquay’s New Years Eve Dinner Dance. The evening included a four course meal, cabaret and dancing to a live band for the ticket cost of £1.05. Yes, I still have the programme!
