No hospital work for Turner

Graham Turner, the Hereford United manager, will not have to undertake his pledge to work in a hospital as his supporters have raised anywhere near the £50,000 needed in the Coke promotion which ended last night.

When the Cola-Cola 'Buy a Player' promotion was set up Turner gave his supporters a promise.

"Hereford fans, I promise to work as a porter in the local A&E if you raise £50k for the Club in the Buy a Player promotion!"

However supporters have raised just £2,656.50 for Hereford United.

Coca-Cola said there was a £10 million transfer fund but it appears that the company will not have to pay out anything like that amount. The final figure may be less than £1 million.

League Two clubs are in line to receive less than £100 K.

Whilst Coca-Cola will say that without this promotion clubs would be a £1 million less well off, there is little doubt that this promotion, like so many others, is more for the benefit of Coca-Cola and it's unhealthy offerings than the perceived recipients, in the case the fooball clubs.
