Steve Constantine, a well-qualified coach who was until recently with Milwall, has been given the task of trying to improve the prospects of the Malawian national team. He has a three year contract.
One of his aims is to build a squad that can compete with other African nations.
He says he would like to help promising Malawian players find clubs in Britain and Europe.
One player he has his eye on for the Malawi national team is Hereford United defender Tamika Mkandawire and has enquired whether he might play for his 'fatherland'.
"I spoke to him recently. The only problem is that he hasn't decided at the moment whether he is gonna stay where he is or move on, so at the moment we won't have Tamika," said Constantine.
